S02E05 Oleta Adams 'Circle Of One'
Wednesday Sep 04, 2019
Wednesday Sep 04, 2019
Remember Oleta Adams, from back in 1991? Of course not. Remember her song though, the big hit? No? It was called 'Get Here'? There you go, now you're on board. Well it turns out she has an album that got to number one for one week in February 1991 so we had to listen to the whole thing.
But as well as chatting about smooth soul jazz we managed to fit in some stuff about Tears For Fears, The Clash and the wonder of saxophone solos.
You can hear all of the songs we talk about on our companion Spotify playlist here - https://tinyurl.com/PCLs02e05playlist

S02E04 Queen 'Innuendo'
Wednesday Aug 28, 2019
Wednesday Aug 28, 2019
Next up in the number one albums of 1991 is Queen's swansong album 'Innuendo' which appears to be lauded by quite a few critics as one of their classics. Will we agree? Both Dave and Krister are relative novices when it comes to Queen so will this be their entry point to a whole big back catalogue?
In the midst of the Queen talk we also touch upon such subjects as Morrissey being a twat, the Butthole Surfers and songs titled 'Delilah'. All songs talked about in the podcast can be heard in our companion playlist - https://tinyurl.com/PCLs02e04playlist

S02E03 Jesus Jones 'Doubt'
Wednesday Aug 21, 2019
Wednesday Aug 21, 2019
Welcome to episode three of our new season and enjoy taking a step back in terms of audio quality for one week because we recorded this one out of sequence, before we upgraded our microphones. Hurray! But ignore that if you can as we are joined by our first ever GUEST on the podcast, Si Sharp, to delve into the guts of Jesus Jones' album 'Doubt' from February 1991. Si is an expert on many musical topics and genres but has a special place in his heart for this particular sort of indie stuff, it's what he grew up on and loved dearly. But are Dave and Krister going to be fans as well? Dave is notoriously adverse to "indie" stuff while Krister is usually all over that shit. Will this revisit to the album be a success? Along the way we also get the chance to chat about Soho, EMF, Rick Astley and Krister's granny. Sorry about this, gran.
Be sure to check out www.pclpodcast.com for more info and links to our various social media and go to Beat Rehab to read more of Si's opinions and lists. As usual we've made a Spotify playlist of all the songs we talk about for you to listen to here - https://tinyurl.com/PCLs02e03playlist

S02E02 Sting 'The Soul Cages'
Wednesday Aug 14, 2019
Wednesday Aug 14, 2019
We keep on trucking into season two with a look at, and listen to, Sting's third solo album 'The Soul Cages' which is a nautically themed tribute to his father who died a couple of years before this was released. Both Dave and Krister are self-confessed Police fans so will they like this as well?
This week we also get to briefly chat about A Tribe Called Quest, Nirvana and, for some reason, Sheep On Drugs. You can listen to our Spotify playlist for this episode here - https://tinyurl.com/PCLs02e02playlist .
As usual check out www.pclpodcast.com for ways to get in touch, follow our various social media or listen to older episodes and playlists. Enjoy!

S02E01 Enigma 'MCMXC AD'
Wednesday Aug 07, 2019
Wednesday Aug 07, 2019
We are back after our break with a new season and a new year's worth of number one albums to listen to. 1991 kicks off with Enigma's debut album and it definitely makes a big impression on Dave and Krister as you will hear. You may also hear that the sound quality has improved a bit and we no longer sound like we're recording in a bucket in a field. Or at the very least, a better quality bucket. Hurrah for new equipment. As well as discussing Enigma and why you'd want to listen to monks chanting over a breakbeat we also chat about Gang Starr, Robert Palmer and C&C Music Factory. As usual we've put together a playlist of all the songs (including the Enigma album) that we talk about for you to listen to here. It's good to be back!

S01E09 Prince 'Graffiti Bridge'
Tuesday Apr 02, 2019
Tuesday Apr 02, 2019
Our ninth episode takes us into August of 1990 and Prince is at number one for one week only with 'Graffiti Bridge', his soundtrack to his godawful film of the same name. We get songs about dancing, songs about sex, songs about a dead father, more sex stuff, one about an actual bridge, and some more sex.
Dave is an absolutely massive Prince fan so what will he make of this having not heard it in many years? Krister doesn't give much of a shit either way; will the purple sex goblin impress him with his kitten heels and falsetto vocals?
We also manage to fit in some chat about Betty Boo, how to pronounce 'Tower of Power' correctly, and whether or not Dave can identify a Bombalurina track from just the intro.
Playlist of songs listened to and talked about available as usual on our Spotify page, link to this one here - http://tinyurl.com/PCL009playlist

S01E07 New Kids On The Block 'Step By Step' (and a touch of Pavarotti)
Wednesday Mar 20, 2019
Wednesday Mar 20, 2019
We knew that Pavarotti was on its way so we very briefly chat about his Essential Collection but let's forget that and concentrate on the total gift that is NKOTB's 'Step By Step' album. This is by far the most fun we've had to date, there is just so much ridiculous nonsense to discuss on here. And trust us, some of the best stuff is in the final third as well.
We very much encourage you to listen to some of the utter cack on here via our usual companion playlist with all of the songs we mention on the show - http://tinyurl.com/PCL007playlist

S01E06 Soul II Soul 'Volume 2 - 1990: A New Decade'
Wednesday Mar 13, 2019
Wednesday Mar 13, 2019
We're halfway through 1990 already and Soul II Soul's second album, 'Vol 2 - 1990: A New Decade" is number one in the UK charts. Dave and Krister both remember this one fondly from their youth but haven't listened to it in many years - does it stand up to scrutiny? Does Jazzie B sound like he should be in Flight Of The Concords? Whose celebrity sex tape would you least want to have to watch? All of these questions come up in some way, shape or form throughout this week's episode for which we can only apologise. We also take time to discuss Sydney Youngblood's apparent beef with Soul II Soul, various football-based songs released in 1990 and discover a previously unknown (to us) link between Soul II Soul and Alanis Morrissette. As usual we've made a playlist with all the songs we talk about for you to listen to at your leisure, enjoy it here - http://tinyurl.com/PCL006playlist
